The Humanities in Real Life

Hello, readers, my name is Sasha Seagull. As an English major at the University of California, Irvine, I am required to take a course by the name of Humanities Core, a class in which a particular theme, this year's being Empire and Its Ruin, is explored by professors of a variety of disciplines within the humanities such as history, art, film, and literature. For the seminar portion, I am required to keep a blog and write about things that interest me in relation to this year's theme. For now, I have decided to write about connections that I make between the subjects covered by my professors during lectures and topics that I have in some way encountered in my everyday life.
